Empower New Haven, Inc. works in partnership with state government, local municipality, and community development organizations to facilitate or create processes and practices that provide sustainable measurable improvements in the economic status and quality of life of individuals, families and businesses. These effective partnerships have supported a collaborative effort to clean up Brownfield sites, which in turn have removed obstacles to redevelopment and involved affected communities in increasing the number of viable resident owned businesses within the EZ.

The Business Assistance Center (BAC) was created by Empower New Haven, Inc. and the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce as a way to assist Greater New Haven residents with ongoing support developing new businesses, expanding businesses, and creating job opportunities. The BAC is available to assist with all aspects of a business’s needs, no matter how large or how small. It is a one-stop resource center for the information and expert assistance needed to develop business plans, access capital, legal services, marketing, accounting, insurance, technology, and credit reinstatement.

Businesses have also seized the opportunity and taken advantage of the Tax Incentives available to them from Empower New Haven. Businesses located within the Empowerment Zone and employing EZ residents are eligible for a multitude of aide such as wage credits, tax deductions, bond financing and capital gains. Also some federal tax incentives, like the Work Opportunity Credit and Welfare to Work Credit are available to businesses outside the Empowerment Zone as well.
