Empower New Haven has been able to make life changes for generations to come by forging successful partnerships with the public and private sector and most importantly with the families and individuals that have invested their trust in us to do the right thing.

It has been profoundly gratifying to see our efforts bearing fruit in the last ten years of our existance. Because of Empower New Haven and its partners, Empowerment Zone residents are driving – in their own cars – to better and better jobs. They are placing keys into doors of homes in which they take great pride because now, for the first time, they are homes that they own. Many are depositing checks into business accounts of all kinds – home-based businesses, daycare centers, retail shops, coffee shops – all businesses they’ve created and that they manage.

Today, many Zone residents are the first generation in their family to be enrolled in college, and they are doing so with the tools and the educational background to experience great success. New job opportunities, on-the job promotions, methodical and steady savings plans for higher education, cherished savings accounts that are doubling through well-deserved matching grants have all been made possible by our work and the work of our partners. With initiatives like New Haven $.A.V.E.$, MI HomePower, and Good News Garage – Empowerment Zone residents are creating a more efficient path to living a fuller life.
