Who Can Apply?

The Academy welcomes applications from non-profits, faith based organizations and community groups that have capacity building needs. The Academy is open to organizations throughout the City of New Haven that serve Empowerment Zone communities. Organizations operating within the Empowerment Zone and who have never received federal funding are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants must have major capacity building needs such as board development, staff training or hires, strategic planning, attaining 501(c)3 status or fiscal restructuring.Applicant organizations must provide direct services or be a collaborative in one or more of the following services areas:

• Children and Youth
• Ex-Offender Re-Entry
• Rehabilitation services to those effected by substance abuse and/or incarcerated individuals
• Elders in need
• Housing and Homelessness
• Families transitioning from Welfare-to-Work
