EMPOWER NEW HAVEN JOINS IN CELEBRATING NATIONAL HOMEOWNERSHIP MONTH

Dear Friends:

President Bush has proclaimed June 2007 as National Homeownership Month wherein he urges citizens to consider homeownership opportunities.  (See Below)

It gives me great pleasure to applaud these sentiments for Empower New Haven has been demonstrably committed to making the dream of homeownership and home asset preservation a reality for several years.

As a result of our successful HomePower initiatives and working strategically with our non-profit and lending partnerships over $140 million of community reinvestment has occurred.  Needless to say, Homeownership and home value maintenance are vital economic stimulators which directly improve the quality of life in New Haven

Due to the coordinated implementation of our Individual Development Account, Loan-to-Grant, New Haven Beautiful ,New Haven SAVES and MiHomepower initiatives over 500 individuals and families now either own their own home, are on their way to saving for homeownership or have improved their real estate investment value.

Empower New Haven along with our partners have been able to tangibly and emotionally provide significant financial and face- to- face time with individuals and families who are now first time homeowners.  I mention the emotional component for the purchase of a significant asset such as a home is a major undertaking. Such a commitment can impact your lifestyle, your habits and even your relationships.

Empower New Haven through our various HomePower initiatives recognizes that the homeownership journey does not end with just receiving the key. In fact in many ways the real journey now begins.  Managing your budget, attending to house repairs, monitoring gas and light utility usage, providing security and the list goes on requires attention and vigilance.

The benefits to owning a home can be substantial, but making the right decisions at the right time can be a daunting task. We are committed to making the journey with our new homeowners fruitful and sustained.

By way of for example our integrated approach to managing a consumer education infrastructure such as homeownership counseling, post purchase follow-up, participation in our EZ Homeowners Club, financial education partnership with the FDIC, Borrow Wise New Haven anti-predatory public awareness campaign, and genuine ongoing concern and respect for the crucial decision our clients have made; we link hands in a sustained way in this wealth-building endeavor.

Let me conclude by mentioning that much has been written as of late about the types of loans and loans which can in fact hurt the loan seeker for either the first-time homeowner or current homeowner. Our HomePower initiatives and strategies are especially designed to protect your investment again due to our historic relationship with community partners and lenders that have proven their worthiness, soundness and consumer transparency.

As we celebrate June as National Homeownership Month we remain dedicated year round to "being there" in support of the homeownership and wealth preservation objective.

Again, I commend President Bush for proclaiming June as National Homeownership Month and if you would like further information or would like to be contacted regarding any of our various HomePower initiatives, please call Empower New Haven at 203-776-2777 or email info@empowernewhaven.org

As always we thank you for joining us in making a lasting difference for generations to come.  To our citizen partners who are on the way to wealth creation via homeownership we most importantly celebrate you!

Sincerely,

Althea Marshall Richardson
