St. Luke's Continues Financing for Elderly HousingSt, Luke's Development Corp.is continuing to seek financing for construction of an 18-unit affordable housing building for the elderly in the Dixwell Neighborhood.
The three-story building at 120 Goffe St.New Haven will replace a dilapidated structure and provide needed elderly housing. The complex will include a community room, lounge, lobby and a covered porch for residents to relax and enjoy the landscaping and community gardens. The building, which will have off-street parking, will be completely handicapped accessible.
Construction is expected to begin this Spring.
St.Luke's is financing the project through the Housing Tax Credit Contribution (HTCC) program of the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority. Under this program, non-profit developers like St.Luke's develop, sponsor or manage housing for very low, low or moderate-income individuals and families. The non-profit then offers the credits to businesses, which make cash contributions to support the development. The businesses receive a dollar-for-dollar reduction in their state tax liability in exchange for their financial support of the affordable housing programs.
Project partners with St.Lukes include the United Illuminating Co.; The City of New Haven;Empower New Haven,Inc.;Yale University Office of New Haven and State Affairs;Yale Law School Legal Services:The Greater New Haven Community Loan Fund; New Alliance Bank; and Citizens Bank.
