Empower New Haven Announces Second Year Funding of the New Haven Non-Profit Academy

Empower New Haven Announces the Second Year Funding of the New Haven Non-Profit Academy Three New Haven Non-Profit Academy community information sessions,open to the public will be held at the Downtown New Haven Public Library in the community room, from 6 -7 pm on October 13, October 27 and October 31.Interested individuals and organizational representatives representing faith based and comunity organizations are invited to attend regarding the implementation of the New Haven Non-Profit Academy and the specific application process. Upon completion of the academy , successful applicants will receive a technical assistance financial grant. Applicants must attend one of the public information sessions in order to apply for admittance into the the non-profit academy.

Empower New Haven is the organizational authority for the New Haven , Connecticut Round II Federal Empowerment Zone. Empower New Haven is a federally funded entity with the express purpose of facilitating or creating processes and practices that provide sustainable ,measurable improvements in the economic status and quality of life of individuals, families and businesses within the Empowerment Zone communities

In August of 2004, President Bush announced $43 Million in grants from the Compassion Capital Fund , which is administered by the Department of Health and Human Services.Empower New Haven salutes the inaugural 2005 class of the New Haven Non-Profit Academy and looks forward to selecting faith based and community organizations to comprise the 2006 class.

"This second year renewal of this important grant enables us to sustain and enhance the wherewithal of community and faith based organizations dedicated to improving the economic well being of those most deserving and with this grant continuation we look forward to providing further grant resources to a variety of organizations that are focused on improving the lives of children and families in the New Haven region," explained Althea Marshall Richardson, President/CEO of Empower New Haven.

Empower New Haven has established and operates the New Haven Non-Profit Academy as a technical assistance training and financial sub award project for capacity building of non-profit and faith based community organizations serving the New Haven , CT Empowerment Zone and addressing issues such as children and youth, ex-offender re-entry, mental health , substance abuse ,services to the elderly ,disabled ,housing and homelessness.

The mission of the New Haven Non-Profit Academy is to increase the capacity and effectiveness of non-profits serving EZ communities through the provision of one-on-one technical assistance , class based training and financial mini-grants.
